STEM

Hawthorne was selected to pilot a new science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) program. All Hawthorne students in grade K-5 will be a part of this exciting program! The elementary STEM program is designed and developed by Project Lead The Way (PLTW). The program is aligned with Common Core State Standards (CCSS) and Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS). Now that we got those acronyms out of the way, what does this mean for our students?

Through the implementation of PLTW modules, students will work together to solve problems, design using technology and hands-on materials, and conduct trials. The third grade modules are Stability and Motion: Sciences of Flight and Stability and Motion: Forces and Interactions. We will be "taking off" with the first module, Sciences of Flight, the week of February 24!
